Spalletta, who used the online handles 'Cthulhon' and 'Jspalletta', laundered a significant portion of the stolen funds between 2021 and 2023. He moved around $26 million through Tornado Cash, a crypto mixing service, and converted stolen cryptocurrency into high-end collectibles.

Trial and Verdict

The trial lasted six days, with the jury reaching a verdict in two hours. US District Judge Jed S. Rakoff presided over the trial in Manhattan.

Sentencing and Implications

Spalletta faces a potential total of 30 years in prison, with the computer fraud count carrying a statutory maximum of 10 years and the money laundering count carrying a maximum of 20 years. Sentencing is scheduled for February 16, 2027.
