Strike launches Stacks to sort Bitcoin savings into goal-based buckets

Key Summary

Strike, a Bitcoin-focused financial app, has launched Stacks, a feature that allows users to divide their Bitcoin holdings into up to five named buckets for goal-based savings. The feature is available for both personal and business accounts and operates within Strike's custodial setup, using multi-signature cold storage to secure user funds.

How Stacks Works

Strike's Stacks feature lets users divide their Bitcoin holdings into up to five named buckets. The idea is goal-based saving, with one stack earmarked for a house down payment and another for a long-term reserve. Moving Bitcoin between stacks costs nothing, and transfers between stacks and the main balance carry no fees or limits. Each stack can also run its own recurring purchase plan, with no fee attached.

Bitcoin Interest on Cash

Strike also launched a new product called Bitcoin Interest on Cash, which provides a 3.6% yield on USD balances, with the yield converted to Bitcoin. This offering allows users to earn a return on their cash balances in Bitcoin rather than more dollars.

The Custody Picture

Stacks operates within Strike's custodial setup, which means Strike holds the Bitcoin on users' behalf, rather than users controlling their own private keys. The holdings are stored in multi-signature cold storage, which ensures that no single compromised key can move funds and keeps the keys offline and away from internet-connected systems that attackers typically target.

What This Means for Strike and Its Users

There are limits to consider. Five stacks is a cap, so users with elaborate savings plans will need to consolidate goals. The requirement to route outgoing Bitcoin through the main balance adds a step for anyone withdrawing to a personal wallet. However, Strike's research suggests that structured savings features could improve user retention and attract customers who want more organized strategies. This feature is particularly useful for businesses holding Bitcoin, which often need to separate funds by purpose, such as operating reserves versus long-term treasury.
