Stolen XRP Fragments Inflate Whale Wallet Metrics

Key Summary

Data traced by Bitquery shows that XRP stolen from Binance was split into six new addresses holding over 1,000,000 tokens each on Nov. 2, creating an artificial surge in large wallet metrics without actual market accumulation.

Key Bullets

  • Bitquery blockchain analytics confirmed that XRP stolen from Binance split into seven new addresses on Nov. 2.
  • Five distinct accounts received exactly 40,001,000 tokens each while a sixth account secured 33,455,920 tokens.
  • Binance disclosed in a Nov. 3 update that hot wallets leaked 233.46M tokens to an attacker address.
  • CryptoQuant reported the Binance spot-to-futures trading volume ratio hit 33.44% on Oct. 28.

Stolen XRP Splitting Distorts On-Chain Metrics

Blockchain analytics firm Bitquery traced a split of XRP stolen from Binance into seven new accounts on Nov. 2. Six of those newly funded addresses cleared the 1,000,000 token threshold. An address tally can increase through the movement of existing holdings. That dynamic requires careful interpretation before drawing bullish conclusions from raw wallet counts.

Binance hot wallets sent 233.46M tokens to an attacker-controlled address between 20:05 and 20:09 UTC on Oct. 29. Five of the Nov. 2 recipient accounts each secured 40,001,000 tokens. A sixth address took in 33,455,920 tokens. Liquidity pools shifted without any fresh buyers entering the market.

Exchange Volumes And Outflows Signal Caution

CryptoQuant analyst Amr Taha reported that smaller transfers of XRP exchange outflows rose from 17% on Sept. 30 to 33.4% on Oct. 29. That metric shift does not establish a corresponding increase in independently held balances. Transfer size alone fails to confirm whether a recipient operates as a new investor in the asset.

CryptoQuant recorded the Binance spot-to-futures trading volume ratio at 33.44% on Oct. 28. Traders saw $33.44 of spot turnover for every $100 traded in futures contracts. Bitquery confirmed zero onward transactions from the seven XRP recipient accounts as of Nov. 3.

Binance Absorbs Losses While Wallets Deceive

Binance stated in its Nov. 3 report that the exchange would absorb the full financial impact of the security breach. Company disclosures confirmed that 98% of the impacted token assets had been replenished by Oct. 31. Order books absorbed the shock.

Investors assessing recovery metrics must put the origin of large balances ahead of raw count totals. Rising wallet counts carry weight when connected to independent buying. A transfer of existing stolen tokens explains the creation of six large accounts entirely.
