Stellar Enables DeFi Applications with Chainlink Data Services

Key Summary

Stellar has integrated Chainlink Data Feeds and Data Streams, providing a native price oracle for DeFi applications. The integration aims to increase Stellar's status as a hub for structured DeFi, but XLM's price has dropped 7-10% following the announcement. Developers can now use the native price oracle to improve collateral valuation, automated liquidations, and stablecoin reference rates.

What Stellar Actually Shipped

Chainlink is supplying two products here, Data Feeds and Data Streams. Both are aimed at the plumbing that DeFi apps depend on, including collateral valuation, automated liquidations and stablecoin reference rates. The launch is built to serve lending, trading and derivatives applications from day one. A bad price feed in any of those categories can turn a routine market dip into a cascade of wrongful liquidations, so the quality of the data source matters a great deal. Chainlink brings a long track record to that job. Its oracles have historically secured the majority of DeFi and facilitated tens of trillions in onchain transaction volume.

The Scale Program and Who Pays the Bill

The integration did not appear out of nowhere. In October 2025, Stellar committed to joining the Chainlink Scale program, which covers both data tools and the Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol, known as CCIP. The Stellar Development Foundation (SDF) is subsidizing oracle operations under the program, which lowers the cost for developers who want to build on top of the feeds.

Why the RWA Angle Matters

The network already hosts over $4 billion in tokenized RWAs, though some reports place the figure between $3.54 billion and $4 billion. Either way, it is a sizable pool of assets sitting on a chain that, until now, lacked native Chainlink pricing. That gap limited what those assets could do. A tokenized asset that cannot be reliably priced on-chain is hard to use as collateral, hard to lend against and hard to trade in automated markets.

What This Means for Stellar and Its Rivals

For developers, the SDF subsidy removes a real cost barrier, and the use cases supported at launch cover collateral processing, automated liquidations, stablecoin rates, lending, trading, and derivatives. Native oracle support from a widely used provider is close to table stakes for any chain that wants to host serious lending and derivatives activity, and Stellar now checks that box.

The Market's Reaction

Traders did not reward the news. XLM declined roughly 7-10% during the week of the announcement and was trading around $0.19 by mid-October 2026.
