On October 13, 2026, SöP Dow Jones Indices (SöP DJI) and data provider Kaiko executed what they describe as the first over-the-counter (OTC) derivative swap conducted fully onchain.

How the Trade Worked

The instrument was a total return swap. Think of it as renting exposure: one side receives the performance of a reference asset without owning it, and the other side gets paid for providing that exposure.

The Counterparties

The two counterparties were trading firm DRW and broker Marex. They executed the swap through Derivnex, an OTC derivatives platform that runs on the Canton Network.

The Role of Kaiko

Kaiko's role in tokenizing the index Kaiko embedded core data, including index values and usage permissions, directly within the Canton Network.

Operational Implications

For traders and institutional desks, the main takeaway is operational. Tokenized benchmarks could support more dynamic trading and lower transaction costs, largely by cutting the reconciliation work that slows down traditional OTC markets.
