Advocacy group pushes back on banks’ lawsuit against OCC over charters

Key Summary

The Crypto Council for Innovation (CCI) has pushed back on a lawsuit filed by the Independent Community Bankers of America (ICBA) against the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) over charters for crypto companies. CCI CEO Ji Hun Kim stated that the lawsuit was an attempt to resist innovation and stifle competition in financial services. The OCC has approved or conditionally approved charters for companies like World Liberty Financial, Circle, Ripple, and Fidelity Digital Assets, despite accusations that these crypto firms aim to evade bank regulations. The ICBA alleged that these charters lack sufficient safeguards and compliance requirements.
